Sr. Quality Engineer

Job Description

  • Quality Systems Engineer Lead is based out of our facility in McCalla and responsible for both our McCalla and Cottondale locations in Alabama.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction through active promotion of YFAI Quality Policy. Assure that departments are following established Procedures/Work Instructions/etc. Assure that all prescribed records and documents are properly completed and maintained. Coordinate activities for Operator/Packaging instructions manual standards, Procedures and Forms

  • Lead Development of Quality Systems and Quality Audits. Develop, organize, and maintain systems used to verify product conformance to accepted quality standards. Works with BOS Management Representative (Quality Manager) to ensure plant meets requirements.

  • Ensure compliance to YFAI Business Operating System (BOS) BOS Quality management system, current TS16949 (Technical Standards) and VDA Standard (Verband Der Automobilindustrie) and will work on transitioning from TS16949 (Technical Standards) to IATF16949 (International Automotive Task Force) Certification standard.

  • Perform job functions in accordance with BOS policies and procedures. Maintain the plant specific BOS documents to uphold compliance to Global and Regional BOS policies and procedures, customer specific requirements and other applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate BOS, ISO/TS 16949, VDA and external party audits for proper certification processes. Develop and maintain a schedule for all internal and external party audits (LPA, BOS, CCC, ISO/TS16949, customer, etc.).

  • Support and guide team to prevent any nonconformity issue. During audits If any nonconformity is detected during any audit, then coordinate the resolution process and response on time.

  • Designated Product Safety Officer (PSB) for Volkswagen (VW) parts.

  • Responsible for coordinating the development of quality compliance standards, developing standards and reports, conducting and ensuring Internal auditing and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of products.

  • Organize and Lead team to perform internal audits (LPA, VDA, BOS etc.) with the objective of identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions.

  • Preparation and reporting of Key Process Indicators (KPI’s). Compiles quality data from internal and external customers into various quality reports for dissemination through the organization. The position requires extensive knowledge of YFAI systems like IRIS, EPIC, BOS SharePoint

  • Develop//strengthen Production Quality team through proper training, coaching, and guidance.

  • Train the different plant departments and teams in regards to the BOS procedures, relevant internal BOS documents, ISO/TS16949, China Compulsory Certification (CCC) and customer specific requirements.

  • Provide awareness when changes and/or updates are released for BOS documents, ISO/TS16949, CCC and customer specific requirements.

  • As and when needed, Train Quality Engineers on these Quality Engineering skills and/or

  • Coordinate the activities mentioned herein and like MSA (Measuring System Analysis), Gage R&R (Repeatability & Reproducibility), Bias, Linearity, SPC (Statistical process control), Control Charts, Dimensional Studies, Cp/Cpk (Process Capability), APQP, Preparing PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) &PSO (Process Sign Off) Submission Packages, Preparing PF (Process Flow)/CP (Control Plan)/PFMEA (Potential Failure Mode & Effect Analysis), Problem Solving Methodologies (like 8D, 5P, 5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, Kepner-Tregoe), Engineering Change/Process Change procedures

  • Develop and maintain system for evaluating supplier performance, review supplier PPAP packages and ensure incoming inspection, coordinate inspection and tracking incoming colorant/resin.

  • At McCalla facility, the Quality Systems Engineer (Lead) is also “Management Representative for TS16949.

  • At McCalla facility, the Quality Systems Engineer (Lead) is also a Technical responsable person for CCC certification. The Quality Control Manager shall ensure that the requirements of China's Implementation Rules for Compulsory Certification of Motor Vehicle Products (for interior trim parts: CNCA-C11-09:2014) are fulfilled and that the complete implementation is secured and adjusted periodically according to the given changes.

  • That the CCC certified products at all times comply with the Chinese product standard (for interior trim parts: GB 8410-2006).

  • That a process instruction exists, which regulates the labeling with the CCC logo. That a procedural instruction exists, which ensures that the CCC logo is not applied on either faulty, non-conforming or non-certified products, and not on such products that have been modified after certification without an adjustment of the certificate.

  • That a COP Control Plan is created and implemented

  • That any relevant changes are announced to the Chinese Certification Authority

  • Support the comprehensive continuous improvement philosophy for all YFAI disciplines. Participate in Continuous Improvement Activities such as process improvements, improving nonconforming flow, separating and recycling nonconforming material and their activities designed to reduce the cost of poor quality (i.e. Kaizen, cross functional task force teams, etc.)

  • Any and all other duties assigned by the Quality Manager.

  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and More than 5 years of related experience and training.

  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), certified VDA auditor, certified PSB for VW preferred

  • Advance level Excel user

  • 5+ years of related experience in a high volume manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge of ISO/TS16949. Trained internal auditor, ASQ CQA and ASQ CMQ/OE are added advantages.

  • Understanding of the quality functions such as customer service, metrology, and quality analysis techniques (i.e. PPAP, Control Plan, Problem Solving, Design of Experiments)

  • Knowledgeable of Quality Systems, BOS requirements

  • Knowledgeable in performing product, process and compliance audits

  • Knowledgeable in creating, updating and maintaining process flows, control plans, and PFMEAs

  • Knowledgeable in conducting MSA/Gage R&R studies, SPC analysis and Use of basic metrology tools: calipers, micrometers, etc.

  • Familiar with GD&T, Ability to read engineering prints

  • Proficient in of MS Office programs with advanced knowledge of Excel, statistical software such as MINITAB.

  • Non-technical competencies including interpersonal skills (relationship building, teamwork, conflict resolution, customer orientation), communication skills (verbal, written, listening), performance skills (detailed, accurate, efficient, organized, ability to plan, motivated, committed, flexible, assertive and developmental).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Basic supervisor skills and experience

  • Must meet Total Error Score ≤ 100 based on Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test Scoring Classification (color acuity)
