Materials Supervisor

Job Description

  • Utilizes and practices methods for continuous improvement: plans goals and individual development with supervisor; executes goals and development plans; keeps individual development record up to date

     

  • Tracks premium costs

     

  • Determines and publishes resource capacities for Customer Demand Review

     

  • Supports the development and execution of action plans to resolve resource capacity constraints, if necessary

     

  • Records “expedite” information for production scheduling

     

  • Assists in preparing instructions regarding purchasing system and procedures

     

  • Coordinates the preparation of and issuance of purchase orders and change notices

     

  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy

     

  • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials

     

  • Designs and develops systems and procedures under the supervision of the materials manager to implement purchasing, production scheduling, inventory controls and traffic which assures the availability of parts, materials and transportation for an uninterrupted flow of materials for production in accordance with “Just-in-time” delivery schedules, while maintaining minimum inventories

     

  • Develops procedures and requirements for parts suppliers to improve timeliness of parts and materials delivery

     

  • Develops and implements visual inventory management systems on the production floor

     

  • Provides for the maintenance of purchased materials and supplies inventory to assure the availability of materials and parts required to fulfill the plant’s ongoing need for these parts

     

  • Ensures guidelines and follow-ups with suppliers provide cost savings while maintaining the even flow of raw materials necessary to produce the finished product for our customers

     

  • Assists in the development of inventory budgets for the purpose of establishing acceptable inventory levels upon which performance can be measured and operating controls affected; provides guidance to plant personnel for the management of inventories at approved operating levels

     

  • Assists in the development procedures to handle engineering changes during the model year for the plant, suppliers and customer to provide for orderly transition in the flow of materials and production

     

  • Assists Plant Engineering and Plant Quality Manager in the Vendor Quality Assurance Program; assists as required in resolving this disposition of substandard or rejected materials

     

  • Assists in the development of procedures to handle changes in order to coordinate the changes in parts and materials within the plant system, with suppliers and with customer, to insure timely start-up of production

     

  • Ensures supplies are delivered on time to provide uninterrupted production and shipment of finished goods

     

  • Helps maintain inventory accuracy at 98% +

     

  • Identifies the need for capital acquisition, gathers information, obtains ASG management approval, and obtains Board of Directors approval (as required)

     

  • Obtains all required authorizations for tooling and equipment procurement

     

  • Identifies job openings, develops a job description and approves the job requisition; establishes performance goals and a development plan, conducting a six-month evaluation, and provides ongoing employee appraisals for new employees

     

  • Identifies opportunities for Continuous Improvements, ensures that continuous improvement activities are planned, implemented, measured, reported, and reviewed in the respective area of responsibility

     

  • Corrects and improves actions in the respective area with regards to employee satisfaction

     

  • Communicates daily with the team

     

  • Reports problems of Information Technology to Level 1 support

     

  • Completes and/or approves the necessary request paperwork for information technology for new hires and employee termination

     

  • Develops and controls documents and data within the function area; reviews, approves, distributes, maintains and files documents and data for which there is management authority; responsible for releasing external documents and for ensuring the obsolete external documents are excluded from use

     

  • Applies the corrective action process when discrepancies/non-conformances are detected

     

  • Responsible for applying the preventive action process when potential issues/risks are identified as well are assessing the importance/severity of the issues/risks and for initiating the preventive action for employees in the department

     

  • Notifies HR of any employee separation (where voluntary or involuntary) and identifies Ask property in the employee’s possession

     

  • Suggests improvements to BOS; identifies and documents the suggested improvements to any Level 1, 2, or 3 document and forwards the change proposal to the corresponding process leader

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field; or 5-7 years of manufacturing supply chain experience

  • Experience in shipping, receiving, scheduling of outgoing/incoming load

  • Experience with meeting supply chain KPI’s such as on time delivery, inventory days on hand, expedite budgets, and delivery windows

  • Experience with organizing a plant layout to meet the needs of the facility

  • Experience with mentoring a team of 10 – 15 team members

  • The ability to multi task

  • Exceptional record of attendance

  • Experience meeting safety KPI’s

  • The ability to set targets/goals for a team along with tracking performance

  • Experience with QAD, KRONOS, and Microsoft office

  • Fluent in Excel

  • Familiar with visual management systems along with Kanban systems

  • Excellent communication skills are needed

  • Fluent with Performance management (Managing behaviors through positive reinforcement as well as accountability when needed)

  • Candidate must be task oriented, but result driven

  • Excellent record keeping

  • Familiar with managing a yard management system as well as implementation of a yard management system
