Airbag Deployment Lab Quality Technician

The lab technician sets up and executes product tests as defined by customer specifications.
Proficiency in using test equipment such as: force gages, calipers, pin gages, LabVIEW software, pneumatic load and cycle fixtures, material test equipment, vibration test equipment, and environmental chambers is required.
Additional skills of setting up data tables or spreadsheets in MS Excel, basic statistics, and communication skills are required. Familiarity with OEM specifications and normal sensory acuity for hearing, color differentiation, and smell are also desired.
This position is comprised of hands-on technical tasks. The successful individual prioritizes work and schedules multiple tasks, understands requirements, sets up or builds simple test fixtures, records test observations, writes test reports, and assists in problem solving. They have the ability to work independently, but also are eager to help teammates in high workload situations.
Other expectations include, but are not limited too:
Safety – It is the expectation that all validation employees conduct their business in a safe manner Technicians must follow safe lab practices, as defined in the Laboratory Manual. Shop equipment can only be used after the shop safety class has been successfully completed. It is expected that all unsafe practices are identified and corrected. Technicians are responsible for ensuring that fixtures and equipment are in safe working order.
Quality System – Technicians are expected to fully understand and implement the validation quality system contained within the Laboratory Manual. All JCI BOS procedures relating to validation must be understood and implemented properly.
Testing – Technicians are responsible for conducting defined tests accurately. During the test, all necessary information must be documented using the date sheet and communicated to the Test Engineer. The information must be correct and must be completed in a timely manner. An understanding of specifications, test methods, and proper use of equipment/fixtures is expected. Technicians may be involved in the scheduling of equipment and fixtures.
Lab Organization/Maintenance – Cleanliness and professionalism are expectations for all Validation Lab employees. All samples must be neatly organized and handled properly. Preventive maintenance and repairs of equipment and fixtures are to be carried out as required.
Teamwork – Technicians must be team players. Integrity, credibility, and a positive attitude must be portrayed at all times. The Technician is expected to interface with the Test Engineer regarding specifications, test setups, results, etc. Once qualified, Technicians may be called on to train others.
Continuous Improvement/Cost Reduction – A desire to learn and continuously improve is an important aspect of the validation environment. Technicians are expected to play an active role in reducing validation costs and to aid in the accomplishment of the validation lab Operational Plan.
- 2 year technical degree or
- 5 year automotive experience
- Mechanical and/or electronic aptitude and computer skills are a plus
