DESCRIPTION: 

This position is responsible for quality of electrical assembled products from launch to final legacy bank build, as defined by the YFAI BOS requirements (primarily PRP) and applicable customer requirements.  The position reports to the Advanced Quality Manager.

 

Typical Duties:

 

  1. Subject Matter Expert (SME) on SMT manufacturing quality process.
  2. Facilitate/participate in the Engineering development of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documents for assigned Launch programs.
  3. Provide design input as to component type and placement location to facilitate production throughput and quality to include type of component packaging, placement location on PCBs.
  4. Knowledge of small components to large part placements methods, pick and place.
  5. Knowledge of camera inspection systems to include programming.
  6. Facilitate/participate in the Manufacturing development of Process Flows (PF) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) documents for assigned Launch programs.
  7. Facilitate and assure development of Pre-production and Process Control Plans. As it relates to electrical assembly. These shall be based on customer requirements, Characteristic Matrix and FMEAs.
  8. Facilitate and assure development of appropriate Measurement System Analysis (MSA) plan for the Launch. Identify appropriate statistical tools and techniques required for assessing process capability and verify all measuring devices are included on the Control Plan and PDFSS Scorecard.
  9. Ensure preparation and on-time delivery of new product Launch Related Customer Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages with regards to PCBs.
  10. Ensure that Launch Related Customer, internal and supplier quality corrective actions (8D’s) meet the required timing, quality and format.
  11. Ensure initial capability studies are properly performed and documented for initial PCB builds and product changes affecting special characteristics, and that customer and internal requirements are met (or a written customer deviation is obtained).
  12. Ensure compliance to all applicable quality customer-specific systems and requirements.
  13. Make recommendations of capital equipment purchases. This would include researching and observing all proposed capital equipment be observed and evaluated prior to purchase.
  14. Qualify all new placement capital equipment by conducting Cpk studies on each to include qualifying solder paste.
  15. Assist AME to determine oven reflow temperature profiles and routinely monitor for deviations utilizing SPC tools.
  16. Develop and teach Best Practice process for handling SMT PCBs (i.e.: grounding straps, ESD protection), 5S to minimize factory caused degradation.
  17. Develop and teach best practices with regards to LIFO and FIFO manufacturing (i.e.: refrigerated paste, PCB testing, managing WIP.)
  18. Track all factory test failures, repair WIP and scrap. Report daily to manager and production leadership.
  19. Qualify all PCB repair technicians to applicable IPC-610 standards.
  20. Ensure IMDS compliance, where applicable.
  21. Attend all System Simultaneous Development Team meetings and provide required quality documents per program timing.
  22. Facilitate/participate in Engineering Design Reviews of specifications and drawings related to the system and develop the Characteristic Matrix.
  23. Assist/support Supplier Quality Engineer, as needed, including supplier selection, kick-off meetings and process sign-off.
  24. Support DV/PV builds and verify that parts meet dimensional and functional requirements.
  25. Ensure the appropriate inspection plans and containment plans are developed for Launch.
  26. Lead Internal Audits, report audit findings and ensure timely close out of any required corrective actions.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (EE, EET) or equivalent science related field required with minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with ISO/QS/TS Quality Systems is required.  Lead Auditor certification is highly desirable. IPC-610 trained and qualified instructor preferred.
  • Experience in Advanced Quality Planning including strong proficiency with the AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs and MSA required.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts, design of experiments, Six Sigma certification or equivalent experience, Black Belt certification, and experience with Minitab software is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and successful use of problem solving methodology is required. 
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing methods is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in use of a computer and common office software (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Good mechanical/technical skills and ability to read engineering drawings are desirable.  GD&T proficiency is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, including experience preparing problem solving documents such as 8D’s.
  • American Society for Quality certification, such as current CQE status, is highly desirable.
  • Experience working directly with customers and suppliers, particularly automotive related.

 

Working Conditions:

The position may be located at a corporate or operations office.  Some (~10%) travel to customer, company manufacturing sites, and equipment supplier sites will be involved.
